What To Do if You're Signaled to Pull Over

If you get signaled to pull over, here are the things you should do:

  • Put on your right turn signal

  • Find a safe spot to pull over

  • Keep your hands on top of the steering wheel

  • Roll down the window when the officer tells you to

  • Provide your license, registration, and proof of insurance as requested

  • Exit the car if the officer asks you to

  • Do not give consent to search yourself or your car UNLESS

  • **Drugs, weapons, or something else illegal is in the officer's plain view


NOTE: If the officer suspects that you have engaged in criminal activity...

  • He or she may do a pat-down search of your person

  • He or she may search the passenger compartment of the car,

  • He or she may frisk objects or bags in the passenger compartment for weapons.
